Wheat Grass

large product photo   OVERVIEW & BENEFITS

Wheat grass is a popular nutritional supplement. Wheat grass along with spirulina, chlorella, oat grass and alfalfa are many times referred to as "green foods". Wheat grass is a rich source of chlorophyll, which some researchers believe to have some health-promoting activities.

Wheat grass supplements are believed to have a variety of health-promoting effects. It has been reported that wheat grass supplementation may:

  • Lower bad cholesterol
  • Fight certain types of cancer
  • Detoxify pollutants that harm the body
  • Protect against solar radiation
  • Increase energy
  • Support the immune system
  • Increase the body's ability to heal wounds
  • Aid digestion
  • Fight tooth decay
  • Promote health skin
  • Lower blood pressure
However, there is not any scientific evidence to support these effects. Because wheat grass contains substantial amounts of chlorophyll, it is possible that it might also have some of the health effects exhibited by chlorophyll, including anti-mutagenic and anticarcinogenic activities.

Wheat Grass Dosage Recommendations

Wheat grass supplements are available as a powder, in tablets, and as a juice. Wheat grass is also available with other "green plan" products such as spirulina, chlorella, oat grass, and alfalfa. A typically daily dosage of wheat grass is 3.5 grams.
