Pollen, a substance collected from the flowers of various plants, contains carbohydrates, fat, protein, and some vitamins and minerals. Pollen extracts have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, relax the muscles that surround the urethra, and to inhibit growth of prostate cells.
Found in most plants, Pollen has many good medical uses. The most commonly used pollen plants are corn, rye, pine, and timothy grass.
Pollen is helpful in lowering the cholesterol in animals and preventing atherosclerosis. The reason for its effectiveness has not yet been discovered. Scientists have of yet to do studies on humans to prove its effectiveness in this area.
Probably one of it most important medicinal attributes is pollen’s ability, as an anti-inflammatory, to reduce the symptoms of benign prostate hyperplasia. Its effectiveness is due to its ability to shrink the prostate.
